Our mission
Only 2 in 5 schools worldwide provide menstrual health education. That means millions of girls experience one of the most important milestones of adolescence without fully understanding what is happening to their bodies. Instead of excitement or confidence, many girls’ first period is filled with anxiety, confusion, and even embarrassment.
Even today, menstruation remains a taboo subject, surrounded by myths and stigma; in fact:
62%of teenagers believe society has taught people to be ashamed of their periods
while 75% feel periods are associated with being “gross” and “unsanitary.”
These harmful attitudes can make young people feel uncomfortable seeking help and talking openly about their experiences.
That’s why I created The Big Sister Guide to Getting Your Period.
I believe that every girl deserves accessible and engaging information that replaces uncertainty with confidence. By explaining the science behind menstruation through interactive activities, quizzes, experiments, symptom trackers, and practical advice, my goal is that readers can explore not only what happens during a period, but why it happens.
I believe menstrual health literacy builds the confidence needed to create an environment where periods are understood as a normal part of growing up rather than something to be ashamed of. When girls understand their bodies, they can make informed decisions about their health and feel more comfortable seeking support when something doesn't feel right. Through The Big Sister Guide to Getting Your Period, I hope to empower young people with the knowledge they need to navigate this new stage of life with confidence.
